FIRST T.E.A.L. ELECTRA
Delay In Delivery
Delivery of the first jet-prop Electra to Tasman Empire Airways, Ltd., has been delayed a few days, according to the general manager (Mr F. R. Reeves). He said yesterday that the Aotearoa was to have been handed over to the company in the United States for acceptance flights on October 30; but, because of production difficulties, it was not handed over for these tests until last Friday. On the first check the machine was found unacceptable because of radio interference in the navigation equipment, Mr Reeves said. The defects in the automatic direction-finding equipment were believed to be only minor and should be rectified in the next two days.
Once the Electra had been accepted by T.E.A.L., flight training of air crew would be undertaken. The airliner would .then be serviced, loaded with spares, and was expected to depart for Auckland next week, Mr Reeves said.
