(New Zealand Press Association)
NEW PLYMOUTH, October 7. A fire in the No. 1 hold of the 9180-ton motor-vessel, Durham Trader, at present berthed at Port Taranaki, was quickly extinguished by the New Plymouth Fire Brigade this afternoon. At the time watersiders were unloading the ship’s cargo of sulphur from the United States.
The fire was located in several pockets among sulphur and cargo battens low down on the port side of the hold. Damage was confined to charred cargo battens.
The Durham Trader is on her maiden voyage from England. She is expected to sail for Australia on Saturday.
