RESEARCH IN ANTARCTIC
Collation Of Data In U.S.
I New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, October 7.
Dr. T. Hatherton, the chief New Zealand scientist in the Antarctic during the International Geophysical Year, left tonight in the Orsova for America to take part in what he described as “the real work of the Antarctic trip.” “The Antarctic is a slow place to get anything definite done,” said Dr. Hatherton. “When we go there we simply swoop in for information. My work in America now will consist solely of coalescing Antarctic data with American, British and Russian scientists.”
With his family, Dr. Hatherton will. live at Pasadena for a year and work at the seismological observatory of the Californian Institute of Technology. Under a Commonwealth Fund fellowship he will also travel extensively and visit scientific institutes in many centres.
Cashmere Accrediting.—Notification that the University of New Zealand has approved the accrediting of pupils from Cashmere High School was received at last evening’s meeting of the school’s board of governors.
