The Chevrolet Corvair
product of a nine-year research and development programme is the Chevrolet Corvair, a photograph of which is repro J duced on this page. With a lightweight six-cylinder engine at the rear, and independent, suspension on all wheels, this car breaks new ground in the American car industry. Close on its heels will be the Ford Falcon and the Plymouth Valiant.
The Corvair employs a swinging rear axle of the type employed on several European models. With the engine at the rear, there is no transmission tunnel. and roadholding is improved. An unusual feature for a car on the American market is the absence of a grill at the front. The only embellishment are chrome bordered dual headlamps and the Corvair emblem. The rear deck is vented for the air intakes for the engine and the exhaust is,screened.
