OLD BATTLEFIELD VISITED
Brigadier Mogg At
Gate Pa
(New Zealand Press Association) TAURANGA, October 8.
Brigadier H. J. Mogg, commander of the 29th Commonwealth Brigade, today visited Gate Pa, where the English regiment to which he belongs fought nearly a century ago. The Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry, recently renamed the Ist Green Jackets, fought at Gate Pa in 1864.
Brigadier Mogg. after inspecting the site of the battle, visited the graves of members of the regiment who were buried in Tauranga. Last night he was the guest at a dinner of officers of the Hauraki Regiment, which is affiliated to his own regiment, and was presented with a suitably inscribed colour photograph of Tauranga. He left today for Rotorua, en route to Wellington, where he will have discussions with the New Zealand Chiefs of Staff.
