BALI HA’I SECOND

Newbury Autumn Handicap (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) LONDON. October 3. Bali Ha’i. the Queen Mother's New Zealand horse, was beaten by half a length by the Princess Royal's Red Dragon in the Newbury Autumn Handicap, of two miles. Bali Ha’i was favourate at 11 to 4 in a field of 13 runners and ridden by Harry Carr, the Queen's jockey, remained well back in the field for most of the race. He improved his position with five furlongs to go and a furlong and a half from the post came through to challenge Red Dragon, ridden by the Australian Scobie Breasley, Red Dragon, which at 9 to 2 was second favourite, ran on gamely and Bali Ha'i could not make up the vital half length in an exciting finish.

A Los Angeles resident devised a plastic flag attachable to car radio aerials, to enable quick identification of a car on a crowded parking lot.
