FINED £50 FOR ASSAULT
Charge Admitted By Accused (New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, October 4. Lloyd Hern Parry, aged 42, public relations officer, who appeared for sentence in the Magistrate's Court at Auckland before Mr A. A. Coates, S.M., on a charge of assaulting his wife, was fined £5O. He had pleaded guilty to the charge. Accused was represented at the first hearing by Mr K. Stewart, who said that Parry had an outstanding record in the Air Force, and was twice decorated. For Parry, Mr D. S. Beattie said the case was a tragedy. The crowning blow was that his daughter was called to testify against him. He referred to accused’s service record. "This country owes something to him. sir.” Through Mr Beattie, accused offered an apology to Mrs Parry for the incident. “This is one of those tragic cases that sometimes come before this Court,” said the Magistrate. “In view of all the circumstances. I have decided not to impose a sentence of imprisonment which could be, and often is, imposed for such an offence." The Magistrate ordered that £2O of the fine should be paid the wife as compensation.
