Canterbury golf will be further strengthened next winter by the presence of the former Otago Freyberg Rosebowl player. B. A. Colquhoun. Already in Christchurch, and expected to play for the Russley club, Colquhoun will be a distinct asset to Woodward Cup and inter-provincial matches.

The Wellington lawn tennis players, Misses S. Cox and B. Meyer, have announced that they will not be playing tennis this season. Both are virtual certainties for the New Zealand badminton team which is to travel to the United States in February for the finals of the Über Cup competition, and they feel that they should devote all their time to badminton. Miss Cox is a former national tennis champion, and Miss Meyer is also a member of her province's Nunnelley Casket team.

Canterbury’s top woman lawn tennis player of last season, Miss J. Davidson, should be fit for the coming season after playing badminton during the winter. Miss Davidson was a member of the Army badminton team which played in the B

grade competition. Last summer Miss Davidson was top player for the Cashmere team which won' the senior women’s competition, and she was subsequently ranked fifth in New Zealand. ★

The former Wellington representative cricketer, D. W Crowe, has returned to Wellington after several seasons of play in Christchurch and Auckland. Crowe, a former pupil at Christ’s College, played for Old Collegians in the Christchurch competitions in the 1957-58 season, and gained selection in the Plunket Shield side. Last season he played club cricket in Auckland. Crowe will rejoin the Wellington club.

The centre-forward for the Rangers soccer team, T. Ryan, has been one of the most forceful attacking players in. the senior competition this season Ryan has had only moderate support from his fellow forwards in club football and consequently has not always

been seen to advantage Selected as a member of the Canterbury senior training squad this season, he played for the province in the return Jones Cup match at Dunedin a few weeks ago.
