Loans For Rebuilding Niue Homes
(New Zealand , Press Association) WELLINGTON, Oct. 1. The first of three annual £24,000 loans from the New Zealand Government for home rebuilding on Niue Island, devastated by a hurricane earlier this year, is provided for by regulations gazetted tonight. Cabinet authorisation of the loans was given in June. The loans cover the building of about 514 homes on the island. The £24,000 will be broken down into individual loans of £l5O for building materials and equipment. The loans will be wiped out if home owners pay back £lOO in 10 years and put £5 into a group insurance fund, which covers circumstances such as the death of a family head.
