WOOL BALE WEIGHTS
Growers Able To Help It will be in woolgrowers interests to keep the weight of bales i of fleece down to not more than 1 3501 b gross. In Pyne. Gould, Guinness Ltd.’s | Annual Review reference is made to a letter sent by the Wool Board and the New Zealand Woolbrokers’ Association to all growers. It mentions that where bales are much in excess of 3501 b they have to be ‘single dumped’ and cannot be ‘double dumped’ for shipping as the maximum gross weight permitted for a double dump is 7001 b. The marked increase in the number of single dumps shipped during the last two or three years has caused the overseas shipping lines to point out that if this level continues freight rates may have to be increased to cope with the New Zealand clip. Heavy Oddments The letter says: “It is realised, of course, that it is not reasonable or practicable to expect growers to pack bales of heavy oddments so lightly and as a reasonable number of single dumps are required by shipping companies to top off holds these bales of heavy oddments single dumped provide the required percentage for this purpose. But do not forget that the maximum weight allowed for heavy oddments is 4501 b gross. “However, it is when packing fleece wool, necks, Ist lambs, etc., that the grower can really help to stave off increased freights. Keep these weights down to 3501 b gross or less and you will not only help to maintain auction prices in this country but will assist in building up our overseas exchange as well.” SHOW DATES The following is a list of show dates for the 1959-60 season:— October 17, Ellesmere A. and P.
