Obituary MR A. M. COLVIN
The death occurred in Melbourne this week of Mr A. M. Colvin, general manager of Humes, Ltd. Born in Hobart in 1897, of a family with close ties with the sea, Mr Colvin began his career with the Union Steam Ship Company and served as purser in many ships trading in the New Zealand coastal services, including the inter-island steamer express. He married’ Miss Amy Saunders, of Central Otago. Mr Colvin joined Humes in New Zealand in 1923 and served in Palmerston North and Auckland. He was branch manager in Hobart, Adelaide, Brisbane, and Sydney and was general manager for New Zealand from 1945 to 1948, residing in Wellington. In 1949, he took up his appointment as general manager of the company in Melbourne. He is survived by his widow, a daughter, Mrs Derek Meyers, of Brisbane, and a son, Dr. John Colvin, of England. MR C. M. SHEPPARD Mr C. M. J. L. Sheppard, who served for 39 years with the Bank of New Zealand in Christchurch and was for many years head teller, died yesterday. He was aged 64. Mr Sheppard was well known as the founder of the New Zealand Diabetics’ Association in Christchurch on his retirement in 1955. He also helped to found similar associations at Nelson, Dunedin, and Auckland. During his retirement, Mr Sheppard was also an active worker for the Foundation of the Blind. Mr Sheppard served with the 3rd Battalion, Ist Canterbury Regiment, in World War I, and on his return was an active member of the Returned Services’ Association in Christchurch and of the Tin Hat Club. In his younger days he was a keen tennis player and at the time of his death was patron of the Linwood Tennis Club. Mr Sheppard is survived by his wife, three sons, Messrs C. M. A.. D. C. A., and M. J. A. Sheppard, and a daughter (Mrs R. C. Halliday).
