PIGS WITHOUT PERMIT
Council Threatens Prosecution
Pigs “running wild” over land in Port Hills road at Hillsborough are worrying the residents, so the Heathcote County Council is to tell the man who owns the pigs he must get rid of them before next Thursday or run the risk of being prosecuted. The council decided at its meeting last evening to place the matter in the hands of its solicitor.
The county clerk (Mr R. W Morris) said the man was keeping pigs without a permit.
Cr. C. D. Le Comte said there were about 100 pigs “running wild” on nearby property. Mr Morris said the man had been told to ge : rid of the pigs and he had already sold 115. "He told me he did not want to sell the rest all at once as it would upset the market.” Cr. Le Comte said some people living in Port Hills road had suggested poisoning the pigs, but he had managed to talk them out of doing that.
Mr Morris said the council had been approached by the man’s partner and asked the requirements for keeping pigs. “The next thing we knew the pigs were there.”
