Tunnel Road
Sir, —Delaying the tunnel road is the last straw'. It is now as plain as a pike-staff that successive Governments consider the South Island of no moment. Even our own representatives refuse to battle for us. Here is the evidence—cost of international section of Auckland airport to be paid for by Government and blind landing aids provided; most of Wellington airport cost paid by Government and blind landing aids provided; Christchurch citizens compelled to pay half cost of New Zealand's only international airport and no blind landing aids provided; no international airlines allowed into Harewood, except TEAL, but several into Auckland; South Island electric power to go north to run North Island’s electric suburban train services; public buildings here forced to use coal fuel while North Island uses gas. Even the takahe is taken from Fiordland to North Island for breeding.—Yours, etc., HOME RULE. September 25, 1959.
