Durham Street Anniversary

The Durham Street Methodist Church will celebrate its ninetyfifth anniversary next Sunday. A special service, led by the Rev. W. Selwyn Dawson, of Auckland, will be held in the evening. A teaching mission has been organised by the church this week in preparation for the anniversary This is also being led by Mr Dawson. The first address of the mission was given last evening at the annual congregational tea, and reports of the year’s work were presented. Other services next Sunday will be a spring floral service and a youth service, both led by Mr Dawson The minister of the church (the Rev. A K. Petch) announced yesterday that a gift had been made by Mrs L. Rudkin for a stained glass window. Although no motif has yet been decided on the window will be set in the memorial chapel facing Chester street.

In the ninety-fifth year, membership had largely increased, according to Mr Petch. “Church membership has shown a pronounced increase,” he said, “and all our church organisations have grown.”
