MORE SHEEP PENS

As a result of a programme of pen rearrangement and extension in the sheep pavilion at the Addington show grounds the number of pens in the pavilion will be raised from the present tally of 1076 to about 1600 in the next two to three years. In addition to the 112 pens for which there is room in the new portal-framed structure recently built between the pavilion and selling rings, a rearrangement of pen space in the present pavilion will enable a further 270 pens to be provided. As well 36 additional pens will be built in the cross alleys, another 36 at the machinery park end of the pavilion and 70 along the back of the pavilion adjacent to the Merino section. When the last Royal show was held in Christchurch in 1955, 1524 pens were needed for the sheep section. Usually with temporary arrangements about 1200 pens are provided for the sheep show.
