Golden Candidate For Second Leg "The Press' Special Service WELLINGTON. Sept. 18. The Hawke’s Bay Jockey Club will present an excellent programme for the opening of its spring meeting at Hastings tomorrow. Feature races in the seml-classic field are the Hastings Stakes, for two-year-olds, and the Gold Trail Stakes, for three-year-old fillies. The T.A.B. double is on the Spring and Members' Handicaps. The Hastings Stakes is the first two-year-old event of the season in the southern end of the North Island, and it has drawn a representative field from Tauranga. Te Aroha 'and Pukekohe in the north, and as far south as Carterton and Levin. The likely favourite is the Wel-lington-owned colt Aly Khan, which has distinguished himself in parades at Riccarton. Awapuni, and Wanganui. The Gold Trail Stakes Is a han- [ dicap tor three-year-old fillies. It is likely to develop into a contest between Karina. Iceberg. Fun, Kilt and Goldish. Karina and Iceberg are the only runners in the field which graduated to open class as two-year-olds. Each scored three wins, and two of Karina's successes were in top juvenile company at Ellerslie and Trentham. Juventas and Vitapointe. which raced prominently at the Grand National meeting, and Hot Drop, which is a Hastings track specialist, are strongly fancied candidates for. the first leg of the T.A.B. double. The Brabazon Handicap winner. Golden Candidate, will be highly favoured from No. 2 at the start in the second leg. The weather has been fine and the track will be fast. King's Glen. 3.40 p.m.—Members’ Handicap: Golden Candidate. Royal Guy. Bookful. 4.25 p.m.—Epsom Hack Handicap: Dipnoi. Jan Ho. Baldy.
