PIGEON RACING
Canterbury Club Fifteen members of the Canterbury Pigeon Club sent 150 birds to Oamaru last week from Christchurch a distance of 140 miles. The winning time of H Clemens’s bird of 4hr 19min 42sec, was an average of 31 miles an hour or 933 yards a minute. The record for this distance, held by F. B. Brownie, whose bird travelled 2028 yards a minute, was made in a southerly gale without rain. The race last week was held in fog. Results: H. Clemens. 4hr 19min 42sec, 1; C. Wiliams, 4hr 20min 29sec 2; D Millerd, 4hr 21min Isec, 3; P.' Torrv 4hr 21min 49sec. 4; R. Weston, 4hr 22mln 42sec, 5. A race from Dunedin, a distance of 200 miles, was won in shr 23min 46sec bv C. Williams’s bird. Results: C. Williams. 4hr 20mm 29sec, 2; D. Harrison, shr 24min 36sec, 2: H. Clemens. shr 25min 21sec, 3; Joe Wilson shr 25min 49sec, 4; L. Newfield. shr 26min 43sec, 5.
