Fine Goal Kicking

In the final day of club League recently there was some amazing goal kicking in the main game, between Papanui and Hornby, by the first year Papanui senior player, Graham Bond. A brother of the fine Canterbury five-eighths, Jim Bond, Graham has impressed with his goal kicking throughout the season and with his steady improvement. On Saturday he kicked four penalties. The number of goals is of little significance, but the distance from which they were kicked was remarkable. His best effoi t was near the end of the game, when he placed the ball several yards inside his own half, and nearer to the touchline than the centre of the field. Derisive cheers from the stand soon turned to cheers as the ball went over the bar. The distance was at least 60 yards. Before that, also in the second half, he had kicked one frofri half-way, and in the first spell he had landed a 55 yard kick into a steady breeze This kick had at least 10 feet to spare as it cleared the bar.
