BEEF SHORTHORN SALE
Seddon Breeder’s Success (New Zealand Press Association) PALMERSTON NORTH, September 16; A white Shorthorn bull, bred by Mr K. M. Dysart, of Seddon, and judged by Mr E. Giles (Pleasant Point) as the champion animal of the show, realised the top price of 900 guineas at the national Beef Shorthorn bull show and sale at the Feilding Show Grounds today. The purchaser was Mr E. D. Holt, of Taradale. The bull, Antrim Fugleman, by virtue of his victory in the show ring, was first into the selling ring and no other bull neared the price he realised. The next highest price was 700 guineas. Mr Dysart’s bull filled first place in the led two-year-old section. Second and third places in this section were taken by Mr R. S. Dysart’s bulls. The top price at last year’s national sale—3oo guineas—was exceeded four times in today’s sale.
The quality of the bulls brought forward was the best yet seen at the sale, and in spite of a number of passings when the animals failed to reach vendors’ reserves a total of 7510 guineas changed hands for the 36 bulls sold. There was a record attendance of buyers. ,* .y Although only judged third in the led yearling class, Mr D. Kilgour's bull gained the second highest price, being purchased by Mr D. Jobson, of Napier, for 700 guineas.
