ACTION AGAINST DUMPING
Conservative Party Pledge (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) LONDON, Sept. 16. A Conservative election pamphlet today pledged continued protection for British farmers against dumped and subsidised exports from other countries. The pamphlet, setting forth the Government party’s agricultural policy, said that in spite of Britain's agricultural expansion, she was still dependent on foreign producers for half her food, and therefore had a vital interest in the volume and price of world agricultural exports. “We cannot, however, tolerate dumping or the subsidisation of exports by our competitors,’’ the pamphlet said. “The Customs Duties (Dumping and Subsidies) Act was passed in 1957 to give farmers and growers amongst others, protection against unfair competition. “This Act established a statutory right to countervailing duties against dumped or subsidised exports. It placed the obligation of proving damage on producers or growers.”
