Maori Team At Auckland
(New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, Sept. 2.
The New Zealand Maori team arrived in Auckland this afternoon to prepare for its match against the Lions. The Maoris have just completed a short tour of the East Coast and Poverty Bay, and flew direct from Gisborne, where they lost to Poverty Bay on Tuesday. In spite of its loss to Poverty Bay, the team was in good heart, said Mr T. A. French, the manager of the side. He thought the tour had been well worth while and had helped to form a strong team spirit. Mr French promised that the side would play open, “characteristically Maori” football.
The team had a training run at Eden Park this afternoon.
