CHILD STEALS THE SHOW
Bowen Welcomes Princess
(Rec. 11 p.m.)
BRISBANE, Aug. 30.
A three-year-old girl who, when she became lost in a 5000strong welcoming crowd, made straight for Princess Alexandra, stole the show at Bowen’s openair civil reception for the Royal visitor yesterday. To the delight of the crowd, Princess Alexandra gave up being the guest of honour and handed over to her new-found friend. The Mayor, Aiderman R. J. Lister, was making his speech of welcome when Anne Skinner took over behind, the Mayor's back. She climbed the dais and made straight for the Princess. Then, with all the poise of a lady-in-waiting, she stood beside the seated Princess, put her arm around her, and took her hand, and admired her pretty yellow frock.
The two stayed together until the Mayor finished speaking. Anne was the daughter of Bowen’s Salvation Army officers. Captain and Mrs J. Skinner. Today, Princess Alexandra is enjoying a carefree tropical holiday at Lindeman Island, on Queensland’s Barrier Reef. After a rough crossing from the mainland on the destroyer, Warramunga, the sun was shining brightly today, ahd the Princess was expected to have a barbecue luncheon on the beach. Later she may go for a cruise along the reef in one of the special glass-
bottomed boats provided at the island for tourists. She will remain on the Island tomorrow before resuming her tour of Queensland.
