“Vogue” Editor Retires
Miss Audrey Withers, who has held the position of editor of the English fashion magazine “Vogue” for the last 20 years, has announced her retirement. Miss Withers sold Bibles and prayer books at Bumpus’s for two years where she earned 25s a week, after having read Modern Greats at Somerville. Then she answered an advertisement for a job and found that it was with “Vogue.” She has made an extraordinary reputation for herself in the fashion reporting business where she is known for her graciousness towards both colleagues and competitors. This smart, grey-haired woman of a calm yet gay disposition will now concentrate on her farm in Essex which she shares with her husband, Victor Kennett, who is an engineer by profession.
