(N.Z. Press Association —Copyright) SUSA (Italy), August 30.
A circus menagerie led by three elephants has crossed the Alps by the !'2soft Clapier Pass, which thwarted the zoo elephant Jumbo in a recent attempt. An animal tamer, Darix Togm. yesterday led three female elephants. a camel, two llamas, and three mules through the pass into France.
It is the pass the British historian. Mr John Hoyte. believes Hannibal used in invading Italy with elephants in 219 B.C. Togni said he did not want to prove the Briton's theory about Hannibal—just that his elephants could succeed where Jumbo failed.
