JUNIOR CHAMBER DEBATING
Napier Wins N.Z.
Semi-final
Napier entered the final round of the Junior Chamber of Commerce national debating contest by beating Mosgiel in a semi-final round in Christchurch on Friday evening. The final will be debated at New Plymouth in October.
The subject debated in Friday’s semi-final was “that the conditions of the Chinese people in the People’s Republic of China have improved under the present I government.”
The judge was the Dean of Christchurch (the Very Rev. Martin Sullivan). In giving his decision, he said that it was important for a debating team to bring forward facts which could be authorised, instead of generalised opinions.
