Italian Firm

WELLINGTON, August 30.
An. Italian firm has won a contract worth nearly £200,000 for supplying high-tension power transmission towers for a 220,000volt transmission line from Wairakei to the Bunnythorpe substation, near Palmerston North.
The Minister of Electricity (Mr Watt) said no tenders from New Zealand firms were received. Tenders were received from seven countries, the lowest being submitted by the Societa Anonima Electrificazione, Italy.
Mr Watt said this firm had already supplied similar towers for several transmission lines completed or under construction and its product compared favourably with those manufactured ii other countries.
