MANY ACCIDENTS IN CITY

Heavy Traffic At Week-end

Police, ambulance drivers, and hospital staff were very busy coping with accidents and accident casualties at the week-end. Traffic in the city area, especially on Saturday wight, was heavy. Mr K. D. McNicol, of 42 Dunkirk street, Timaru, received arm and leg injuries when a motorcycle and a car collided at the corner of Madras and Lichfield streets about 12.20 a.m. yesterday. He was taken by St. John ambulance to the Christchurch Public Hospital and admitted. His condition was reported last evening as satisfactory. Mr Brian Davies, of 211 Wai-iti road, Timaru, who received minor injuries in the accident, was treated at the casualty department and sent home. Mr N. Max. of 25 Grassmere street, Timaru, and Miss J. Frew, of 28 Osborne street, Christchurch, received head injuries when a car and a motor-cycle were involved in a collision at the corner of Pages road and Bickerton street on Saturday. They were taken by St. John ambulance to the Christchurch Public Hospital and admitted. Miss Frew has been discharged, and Mr Max’s condition is reported as “quite comfortable.” Mr Colin Beaumont, of 363 Easton terrace, is believed to have had a seizure before his vehicle was involved in a collision at the corner of Hastings street and Waltham road about 230 p.m. yesterday. He was taken by St. John ambulance to the Christchurch Public Hospital and admitted. His condition was reported last evening as satisfactory: When he was'struck by a car in Seaview road, New Brighton, about 7.45 p.m. on Saturday, Mr R. I. Parker, of 55 Wairoa street, a pedestrian, received head and leg injuries. He was taken by St. John ambulance to the Christchurch Public Hospital and admitted. His condition was reported last evening as quite comfortable. Two cars collided at the corner of Hareford and England streets about 3.10 p.m. on Saturday. A child, Fergus Harding, of 100 Osborne street, Linwood, was admitted to the Christchurch Public Hospital suffering from shock. Mrs E. W. Harding and Robert Harding, a child, both of 100 Os. borne street, were treated at the casualty department and sent home.
