Three Men To Appear
In Court

The viligance of a constable was primarily responsible for the apprehension, and, later, the arrest of three men in Ashburton in the early hours of this morning, and they will 'appear in the Magistrate’s Court, Christchurch, tomorrow charged with countinghouse breaking with intent. The constable was on patrol at 2.40 a.m. when he saw a car which had earlier been reported as missing. At the same time he heard a door handle being rattled in a nearby theatre. His investigation disturbed the intruders, who scaled a six foot fence and made off. Later the constable questioned three men and took them to the police station.
Investigation of a rental car revealed a stick of gelignite, and a search in a section to which one of the men led the police revealed more gelignite, a box of detonators and a length of fuse The Christchurch C. 1.8. were called in and the three men were arrested. The car first seen by the constable had been stolen in Ashburton early yesterday morning.
