Dam Site Name
The fight by North Otago interests against the naming of the proposed Benmore ftower dam site at Waitangi as “Okaitu” may have succeeded At the monthly meeting of the Waitaki Electric Power Board, the Minister of Lands (Mr Skinner) advised that the final gazetting of the name “Okaitu” had been deferred pending consideration of alternative names bv the Geographic Board. It was decided to support the Waitaki County Council in any name it favoured.
