Webster was three up with five to play, and he was playing very steadily. Godfrey’s chances did not look good, but lie won the fourteenth and fifteenth, halved the sixteenth in par figures after an indiflerent drive, and then squared the match at the short seventeenth, winning on the eighteenth. The reigning champion, J. Chapman (Auckland) beat G. F. Keys iTaumarunui) at the twentieth.
