I. TUCKER’S TEAM

Three Starters At Warwick Farm

(Australian Correspondent N.Z.P.A.i SYDNEY, August 23

Iv«n Tueker probably will have three starters at the Warwick Farm meeting on Saturday, and the most interesting of them will be Supertax and Court Gold. Tucker has not been here since he trained Rising Fast when the champion first came tq Australia, and before the horse was handed over to the Melbourne trainer, F W. Hoysted. Tucker says that his horses are not as good as many people think, but It is not likely that the betting public will take that opinion into, much account until the horses run and they have a chance to decide for themselves. In the meantime someone outside the stable has heavily backed Court Gold for the Epsom Handicap, both straight out and in doubles with fancied runners engaged in The Metropolitan. The move was made at Warwick Farm on Saturday, when several horses were backed for the double, including Maurice McCarten’s reoresentative. Noholme, which subsequently showed the soundness of the backing by winning the Campbelltown Handicap in excellent style. Supertax probably will start in the Warwick Stakes run at weight-for-age over seven furlongs. In this race he will meet his compatriot, the Epsom Handicap favourite. Up and Coming, already the winner of two races in Australia—his only starts so far.

Supertax, of course, will run tn the Caulfield Cup, and Tucker save that it is unlikely that he will contest the Epsom Handicap. If he starts Court Gold will contest a welter race in which he has 9-7 based on a minimum of 8-0. It should be a comfortable first run for him because he is not likely to be at his top just now. and too much would not be expected of him.

Travel Boy Beaten The surprise of Saturday’s racing was the defeat tn the ’Hnbartville Stakes of the odds on favourite. Travel Boy. which was pointlessly beaten by the grey. Martello Towers, a son of Gaekwar’s Pride (imp.). Travel Boy recently was on the market, and a half share was paid for him by Sir Frank Packer, who

raced Columnist and other good horses

The reported price was £15.000. and it was expected that Saturday’s race would be comfortable for the New Zealand bred tiiree-year-oid. now early Derby favourite.

Travel Boy raced well enough but Martello Towers is a seasoned horse which has been racing on and oil through the winter, and lie ran to the front at the start and carried the field “oft its legs." He ran seven furlongs on a dead track in near-record time. Smith said he was not altogether disturbed about the defeat, because Travel Boy was being trained for the Derby and not for sprint races. However he had expected that Travel Boy’s class would have carried him through Saturday’s race. N.Z. Bred Winner New Zealand prestige, was saved by the success of the McCartentrained Radar and Kupe,' which fought out the Novice Handicap finish. Radar won by the narrowest of margins. Radar is by Gabador from News Flash, and is raced in partnership by T. C. Lowry and R. H. Bettington. Kupe is by Marco Polo and is trained by A. E. Webster for A. T. Webber. At his previous run at a provincial mid-week fixture Kupe had won so well that punters considered Saturday's race would give him another easy win.
