HIGHWAY TO AKAROA
Tender For Last Sealing
A contract has been let for sealing the final section of the Christ-church-Akaroa highway—from the Hilltop to Barry’s Bay— and the contractors, British Pavements, Ltd., will begin work almost immediately. The company’s tender of about £90,000 has been accepted by the Ministry of Works, and the contract will involve road widening, corner easing and a deviation to eliminate a sharp g-bend at the bottom, of the hill. A separate contract will be let for a 30ft bridge on the deviation at Barry’s Bay.
Work is expected to take about 15 months.
