Broadcasting Act Amendment
(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON. August 26.
The obligation for the Minister in charge of Broadcasting to provide a service from a non-com-mercial station in each locality served by a commercial station is modified by a clause in a Broadcasting Amendment Bill which was introduced and read a first time in the House of Reoresentatives today. The clause removes the obligation in localities where a station is established for the purpose of relaying programmes from a commercial station.
Another clause permits the Minister to collaborate with persons or associations for the purpose of producing and making available gramophone records and other reproductions of matter which the Minister is authorised to broadcast. At present the power is limited to collaboration with nonprofit making associations.
The Minister (Mr Boord) explained that the clause would enable recording companies to press for sale recordings o>" National Orchestra performances and the work of New Zealand composers which had been broadcast.
