MR McCOMBS ON EXPERTS
Preference For Local Product
(New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, August 25.
Overseas experts hold no appeal for Mr T. H. McCombs, a member of the University of New Zealand Senate and former Minister of Education.
At the annual meeting of the senate in Auckland today, he opposed a move to get an overseas expert to advise on a veterinary school for New Zealand. He said an' overseas expert would give a report either summarising all he had been told in New Zealand or based on his overseas experience and environment.
A majority of members agreed with Mr McCombs that perhaps an expert in the hand was worth two from the overseas bush. The Senate voted to allow the grants committee to consult any expert on veterinary matters it pleased, but specifically deleted the word “overseas” from the resolution. The committee can, however, bring ih an overseas expert to advise on the establishment of a veterinary school if it wishes.
