Retailers’ Protest At
Board's Policy
(New Zealand Press Association) INVERCARGILL. August 25.
Concern at the high prices set by the Apple and Pear Board was expressed at the annual meeting of the Federation of Retail Fruiterers- and Greengrocers in Invercargill yesterday. The federation's president (Mr G. Gee» said the board had cooperated in rectifying indifferent packing of fruits, poor condition and short weight in cases of apples, but retailers were perturbed by the board’s policy of raising the prices of apples and pears on the local market. Mr Gee said the grower could sell apples at his gate for £1 a case, but the board charged 355.
