Impressive Run At Wingatui

"The Press' Special Service DUNEDIN, August 25. McGregor was one of the most impressive trialists at Wingatui this morning, when the work was held under ideal conditions. The Callander gelding will have his first race for his new owners. Mr and Mrs J. A. White, of Balclutha, in the second Knapdale Stakes at the Eastern Southland Hunt meeting at Gore on Saturday. McGregor was ridden by R. J Skelton and finished on clear of Panam <B. N. Elair) and Swanky |<L. W. Hare). The opening two furlongs were covered in 26 2-ssec and McGregor gave the impression that he could have improved on his time of Imin Bsec for the five furlongs. The Wings (F. Henneberry) also worked on the plough and ran half a mile in 54sec, the first furlong in 12 3-ssec. A candidate for the First Knapdale Stakes, The Wings has shown speed, but she has lacked stamina. Neptona (D.'J. Anderton) dashed over three furlongs in 42 2-ssec. The Royal Chief gelding, which is trained by his Ravensbourne owner, Mr E. Stapleton, showed speed to lead in the middle stages of the hack mile at Wingatui on Saturday. He will be better suited by the six furlong distance of the Second Knapdale Stakes. Desert Chief <R. J. Skelton) [was given an easy run over six ; furlongs on the inside grass in Imin 2.3 sec, the first three furlongs in 40sec. The Ruthless colt will tackle the open handicappers in the mile and a quarter President's Handicap at Gore on Saturday. Prince Ermine HL T. Anderton) and Pot Luck (B. P. Kennedy» ran clear of Tarry Not <F. Henneberry) and The Era (P. Denton) at the end of three furlongs in 41sec. Prince Ermine is due to resume racing in the Mandeville Hack Handicap, the second leg] of the Gore double. Pot Luck will revert to flat racing in the President's Handicap after a successful campaign as a hurdler. Pearly Gate <G. E. Lowry) [ jumped well over the first three’ fences, but he lost his rider when : he attempted to run off the third! last fence.
