UNLOCKED CARS

Minister Appeals To

Motorists

(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, August 25.

An appeal to motorists to lock their cars and not leave valuable articles in them was made by the Minister of Police (Mr Connolly) in the House of Representatives this afternoon during a discussion on the Police estimates.

The Minister said a survey in one small town taken ovet four nights revealed 232 unlocked parked cars. “If people would only lock their cars and take valuables such as cameras and travelling rugs into their homes it would save the police many thousands of hours of work,” he said. The Minister told Mr F. L. A. Gotz (Opposition, Manukau) his suggestion that both police and traffic officers should be able to communicate with each other was valuable.

Mr Gotz said that police and traffic cars were equipped with radio, but officers were not able to radio one another. If they were. it would help in the tracing of stolen cars and in other cases.

It was high time police, traffic officers, and ambulance men could communicate with each other, said Mr Gotz.
