TRAVEL BOY BEATEN

Trainer Pleased With Run

(N.Z. Press Association— Copyright) SYDNEY. August 23. The New Zealand-bred Travel Boy was beaten at Warwick Farm yesterday, his first run in the spring campaign, but his trainer, T. J. Smith, is not worried. Travel Boy failed by a length and a half to catch the speedy colt. Martello Towers, in the Hobartville Stakes (seven furlongs). Travel Boy finished strongly right to the last stride, but Martello Towers was much too good. The New Zealand filly, Pique, finished third. Martello Towers ran the seven furlongs in Imin 24 7-10 sec. It was the case of a seasoned horse against a horse which has had nothing more than track gallops. Martello Towers raced in May, June and July, starting four times for three wins.

Travel Boy had not run in a race since April 1, when he contested the Champagne Stakes. Half-way through the race Travel Boy's rider, N. Sellwood, gave the colt a "feeler.” Travel Boy quickly tesponded, giving the impression he could have run much closer to the leaders than he was at that stage. Sellwood did not ask Travel Boy for an effort again until the field turned into the straight. Travel Boy moved up quickly and for a few strides it seemed as though he would go on and reach Martello Towers Then it became apparent that Martello Towers was going much too well for his opponents. Smith said he was pleased with the way Travel Boy had come home. In the Campbelltown Handicap at Warwick Farm, the New Zealand mare. Yahabeebe, “made” the race for Noholme by setting a fast pace to the <urn. Noholme raced away in the straight to win easily by.one and a quarter lengths from Yahabeebe with Lady Cortauld. also a New Zealander, a short neck away, thiid.

N. Seiwood jumped Noholme away smartly at the start and then settled the colt down on th' inside behind the leader. Yahabeebe. Noholme quickly raced up to Yahabeebe in the '•traight, then came away to an easy win.

Connexions of Yahabeebe may now change their plans to retire her to the stud. They had planned to retire her after yesterday’s race, but after her run, the trainer, Frank Dalton, said that plan almost certainly would be changed. Lady Cortauld, which finished third, came home strongly and will be greatly improved by the run. Results:— HOBARTVILLE STAKES, Of £1550; seven furlongs.
