Beau Clair Gains Another Fine Win

Beau Clair completed a double for the meeting when he outstayed bls opponents in the Winter Handicap, the first leg of the on-course double at Addington on Saturday. He worked to the lead racing through the straight the last time and be fought on gamely for a decisive win

after another highly interesting race.

Durban Chief, in finishing fourth, recorded 3min 25 l-ssec for the 13 furlongs, equalling the New Zealand record for 13 furlongs established by Dictation in 1954.

Air Command led out from See All and Beau Clair, Beau Clair taking over at the end of a little more than six furlongs. The pace was on all the way, but at least seven horses still had winning chances racing to the straight. Beau Clair led from tne improving Supervise, with Worthy Boy, Indianna, Durban Chief, See All and Ordeal all handy. Beau Clair again ran on too strongly for his rivals and fie won well by a short length. Supervise trotted an improved race to finish second, but she was subsequently disqualified for causing interference. Ordeal, after breaking twice in the first three furlongs and having 11 horses in front of her at the half-mile, finished well for third half a head behind Supervise, with three lengths to Durban Chief, which held off Worthy Boy and See All. She was one out. just behind the pacemaker, Whippy Dillon, .for most of the race. Waitaki Child raced past the tiring Whippy Dillon racing to the straight and he turned for home two lengths in front of Josie Gay, with two lengths to Skydale, which was followed by First Belle, Whippy Dillon, Gold Mist and Dilossa. Waitaki Child shied at the furlong post and this left Josie Gay in front. She fought on strongly for J. L. Behms and won by a length from First Belle, which made up ground in the straight after being fairly well placed all the way. Skydale, which received a good run on the rails ail the way. got up for third, half a neck behind First Belle and a length and a half in front of Dilossa, with Waitaki Child, Vinola's Luck. Gold Mist, Ceremonial and Technician next. Kanor, Gay Baron, Mulgrove and

Roving Gypsy lost ground at the start.

Reason Why was the third winner owned by W. J. Doyle to win at the meeting when he beat Highland Heath in the Wildwood Handicap. Zany was first out. but Kiwi Grattan took over at the end of three furlongs. Pacemaker had charge with eight and a half furlongs left and he led Kiwi Grattan and Highland Heath racing to the straight, with Zany, Reason Why, Surie Queen. Queen’s Glow, Solemnity and Seafield Lad most prominent of the others.

Highland Heath took the measure of Kiwi Grattan inside the halffurlong. but had no counter to the final challenge of Reason why, which responded gamely to win by half a length. Highland Heath raced right up to his winning run of a week earlier to hold second place half a length in front of Seafield Lad, who received a poor run over the last halfmile. Kiwi Grattan was only a head away fourth, just ahead of Solemnity, with Zany, Pacemaker, Cassado and Queen’s Glow close up. Surie Queen and Johnny Guitar broke at. the start. ? The bracket of Mighty Mina and Bracken Brae finished first and third respectively in the Queen Mary Handicap. Both horses were handily placed all the way. Mighty Mina trailing the pacemaker. Great Dillon, for the first seven furlongs and then moving one out. Stylish Petro moved up to be handy to Great Dillon racing to the straight, with Bracken Brae. Mighty Mina. On Side. Stoker, Frown and Direct Rhythm handily placed. Mighty Mina raced past Stylish Petro inside the furlong and battled on to win by a length. Stylish Petro paced a sound race after being well back in the early stages. He has raced well lately and looks overdue for a win. Bracken Brae battled on over the last furlong to be a short length back third, a nead in front of Stoker, which made up ground from the middle of the field. Great Dillon tired to fifth, clear'of Frown, Spring Lynne,, Direct Rhythm, On Side and Fox Able.

On Side. Lady Vai, Mythical Lass. Spring Chat, Frown, Direct Rhythm and Empire Globe gave ground at the start.

With You Again With You completed a double for the meeting with an easy win in the Addington Handicap. He was trotting under a good hold all the way and W. J. Doyle was content to wait until the last five furlongs before beginning to move him up. Tara took the lead from Coronet Lass with two and a half furlongs to run and he turned for home a length m front of With You, with Medetta handy and Coronet Lass. Forenoon and Larnie Scott at the head of the others.

Tara looked likely to trouble With You inside the furlong, but he broke with about 75 yards to run. With You then came on to win easily by three lengths. F. E. Newfield had Tara back to a trot before the post and he took second place by half a length from Medetta, which was tailed off early and made up a lot of ground. Forenoon was a length back fourth, ahead of Larnie Seolt, with a gap to Coronet Lass at the head of a tired lot.
