GERMANY BUYS N.Z. BUTTER
1500 Tons At 390 s
Per Cwt
(Special Correspondent N.Z.P.A.) LONDON, August 20. New Zealand is to sell 1500 tons of butter to West Germany at a reported price of 390 s a cwt for delivery by the end of November.
Australia will sell 1000 tons at 389 s a cwt, also to be delivered by the end of November.
Altogether West Germany has received tenders for some 15,000 tons of butter, most of it from Europe, for delivery by the end of September, though whether all can be supplied is thought to be doubtful.
Ranging at prices between 390 s and 400 s a cwt Germans accepted tenders of 5100 tons from Holland, 2500 tons from Denmark. 2000 tons from Sweden, 900 tons from Finland, 350 tons from Norway, 300 tons from Poland, and 130 tons from Austria. Other countries are said to be supplying small quantities.
Tooley street opinion is that West German buying has already been accounted for in the present wholesale price level in Britain, and is unlikely to have any further influence, at least for the time being.
