ATTACK ON GRIVAS
“Has Morbid
Arrogance”
ATHENS, August 23.
The Greek Foreign Minister (Mr Evangelos Averoff) last night charged General George Grivas the former Eoka leader, with being “possessed with morbid arrogance.” The Minister, commenting in a statement on the General’s charges that the Greek Government was giving way to Turkish and British demands over Cyprus, said Greece “has neither made nor is prepared to accept any deviation” from the Zurich and London agreements on Cyprus. He added that the general could disagree with the Government’s policy “only if he has now decided to disavow these agreements.” Mr Averoff said: “The fact that Mr Grivas describes himself at one time as a national apostle and at other times as a national asset indicates that he is possessed with morbid arrogance."
