ENVOY AT U.N.
Agreement Reached
(Rec. 11 p.m.) NEW YORK, Aug. 22. The United Nations Secretary-General (Mr Hammarskjold) and the Laotian special envoy (Mr Ngon Sananikone) today reached agreement for the “peaceful solution” of the present trouble in Laos. Mr Ngon said that because of the “diplomatic character” of the solution, he could not divulge its details. Asked whether the agreement involved the Security Council, Mr Ngon replied: “Not at all.” He added that the solution would not require Mr Hammarskjold to leave “this building or anyone else to leave for that matter.” He declined to speculate on how long it might be before the details of the solution arrived at were made public. Mr Ngon, a former Defence Minister of Laos and brother of the Laotian Prime Minister, arrived in New York last Wednesday with a request from his Government to Mr Hammarskjold that he suggest “such procedures or measures as he might consider were designed to achieve a peaceful settlement of the difficulties at present experienced by Laos.”
