TUNISIA AND FRANCE
Trade Talks In Deadlock
(N.Z Press Association—Copyright) (Rec. 11 p.m.) TUNIS, August 20. Talks on trade and aid between Tunisia and France have reached deadlock and Tunisian newspapers said today that Tunisia may have to turn to other countries for economic assistance. Officials said that unless the deadlock was broken soon, Tunisia would have to take unilateral action, including a possible withdrawal from the franc zone. The Tunis newspaper “As Sabah” said that the talks were on the verge of breakdown at a time when Morocco was reported to be considering an offer for a loan of £4,300,000 from Russia. It said that neither Morocco nor Tunisia could be blamed if they despaired of reaching economic agreement with France and turned elsewhere for aid.
