CITY SHEARING CONTEST
West Coast Winner
The first four positions in the shearing and public speaking contest for young farmers held in a Christchurch department store during the last week were:—N. Sadler, Nelson Creek, West Coast, 1; B. W. Stewart, Spotswood, Cheviot, 2; G. Upston, Cheviot, 3; G. A. Inch, Oxford. 4. The contest is being sponsored by the New Zealand Wool Board, the Young Farmers’ Clubs, and retail department stores throughout New Zealand. In the local Competition there were 43 entries.
The tape recording of the winner’s speech will be forwarded to Wellington, where it will compete against recordings from other South Island district winners for the South Island final. The prize for the two winning representatives from the North and South Islands will be a 10day holiday in Honolulu with all expenses paid as guests of the New Zealand Wool Board.
