PLASTIC FOAM PETTICOATS
Make-It-Yourself Garment
With women’s wearing apparel you never know what’s coming next. One of the latest overseas crazes is the plastic foam petticoat, according to “The New Zealand Draper.” This is a make-it-yourself arrangement. First you buy the foam plastic, which is about half an inch thick and is sold by the yard, ready-pleated, on to a hip band of rayon jersey. All you need is enough to go round you. This you seam up and there you are.
What are the advantages of a foam rubber petticoat? Well, the experts say, it is excellent for filling out the skirt of a summer dress. Also, it is cheaper than nylon and less inclined to go limp than stiffened nylon. Sounds all right. But what a temptation for the boy-friend to say. “Darling, calm down, calm down. You’re foaming at the hemline!”
