RANDOM REMINDER
OBSTACLE RACE
There was great excitement in England recently with the air race between London and Paris, a contest requiring competitors to use a strange array of transport. Here in New Zealand we may not have the facilities to conduct such a spectacular event; there is a distinct shortage, for instance, of handlebar moustaches on our Air Force officers. But we are known for our adaptability, and there is no reason why we too should not enjoy something equally thrilling. Competitors could be required to start from Diamond Harbour and row across the harbour to Lyt-
telton. From the landing point there could be a short sprint to the mouth of the railway tunnel. Transit through the tunnel must be by bicycle; the Railways Department would no doubt co-oper-ate. From Heathcote there would be a mad scramble, Le Mans style, to the wheelchairs (manually operated) for the section of the race to the Takahe. Puncture repair outfits would of course be provided, and entrants need not necessarily keep to the roads. A short downhill section by horseback would take the competitors to Beckenham, and from there
the final section would be to Cathedral square, on roller skates. If this race is not thought sufficiently exhausting, entrants might be asked to explore a few avenues ; and turn over a few - stones, to relieve our politicians of a burden which has grown heavier with , the years. Wheelchairs, bicycles, roller skates, 1 boats and horses are > among the many items which can be found in the classified advertising section of “The Press.” But there are very many more, for day by day the • classifieds present to thousands excellent opportunities of wise buying and selling.
