Vital Statistics For July
Births and deaths recorded in Christchurch for the seven months of this year showed increases when compared with figures for the corresponding period last year, according to the vital statistics released by the Registrar of Births. Deaths and Marriages. Up to 4 p.m. on Friday there had been 3031 births and 1371 deaths during the seven-month period. Last year 2936 births and 1322 deaths were recorded for the same time. Births in July totalled 430, against 412 last July. Deaths for the month numbered 265, compared with 238 last year. There was a slight drop in the number of marriage licences issued for the month—llo against 126 last year. Weddings at the Registry Office during July totalled 36 There were 24 last July For the seven-month period 229 weddings were conducted at the office, while last year there were 208. Up to July. 1081 marriage licences have been issued, against 1046 in the corresponding period last year.
