ELECTRICITY FOR NEW HOSPITAL

Charge Fixed By Council Electricity will cost the new Princess Margaret Hospital £4 a kilowatt, plus £d a unit—the same as it costs the sanatorium—the Heathcote County Council decidec at its meeting on Friday In his report to the council, the county clerk (Mr R. W Morris) said the unit consumption of a hospital was difficult to estimate.

“This is because, a hospital has a variety of apparatus, and in emergencies the load demand can be high and out of all proportion to the number of units used for the duration of the emergency,” he said. “For this reason hospitals are normally charged on the maximum demand per kilowatt and a separate charge made.”

Mr Morris said this was the case with the sanatorium. The £4 a kilowatt is based on the bulk charge of electricity to the county.
