'Robin Hood’ At Large
(Rec. 10.20 p.m.) SYDNEY, August 1. A modern-day “Robin Hood," dressed in a flowing green cape and hood, early today shot a cleaner in the leg at a Returned Servicemen’s League club in Newcastle, 100 miles north of Sydney. Then he fired a shot which narrowly missed a second cleaner, leapt through an open window and escaped in a brilliant yellow car.
Newcastle police, who are calling the man “Robin Hood.” said he may be mentally unbalanced and dangerous. Police said the two cleaners discovered the man crouched behind the club bar when they started work today. The man stood up, threw his cape off one shoulder and whipped out a small nickel-plated pistol. “Hands up," he shouted, then fired twice.
A doctor treated the wounded cleaner for a flesh wound.
The man had opened a small safe behind the bar and taken about 7s in petty cash. He left £l2O in silver stacked on the counter.
