The Minister of Health (Mr Mason) will fly to Christchurch today to attend the annual meeting of the Plunket Society Mr Mason will return to Wellington b” air tomorrow morning.— (P.A.) The Canterbury University Council yesterday recorded regret at the death of Professor E. Percival, head of the biologv and zoology departments for many years. The retiring Chancellor (Mr D. W Bain) said Professor Percival had insnired his stu ’ents and more recently taken an active part in the administration of the council. “His death is a loss to his family, the university, and the whole world of science which he served so well,” said Mr Bain.
The council of Victoria University of Wellington yesterday approved the appointment of Dr S G. Culliford. as principal of the new branch college at Palmerston North Dr. Culliford is at present a senior lecturer in the English department at Victoria. —<P.A.)
The following staff appointments have been made at Canterbury University:—part-time lecturer in geology, Mr D. R. Gregg: part-time lecturer in music, Mr Maurice Till; temporary assistant lecturer in English, Mr P J. M Murray; assistant lecturer in zoology, Mr P M. Johns.
The civil engineering prize at the University of Canterbury has been awarded to Mr Graham John Bell.
The Canterbury Universi' v Council yesterday appointed as acting heads of departrr ts Dr C. J. Wilkins (chemistry), Mr C. T. Ford (education) and Mr G A. Knox (zoology).
